Zion National Park, Utah, May 2004

We spent three days here and it's now our favourite park!  There are tons of hikes and it's easy to avoid the crowds as long as you set off early.  We did the Angels Landing hike which took  4 hours, most of it climbing vertically!  I chickened out of the last part since it consisted of holding on to chains secured in the rock, in order to get to the top.  Plus there was a wind blowing!  The other hike was wading along the Virgin River which has created a 'slot canyon' which is sometimes as little as 6ft wide.  We rented special boots and a big pole to navigate the water.  The water was thigh deep in places and the walking against the current was sometimes hard.
