One of the Lesser Antilles islands, this island has two different languages and is ruled by two nations. The North is a French protectorate and uses the Euro, while the south, St Maarten is Dutch and uses the Antillean Florin. There's no actual border checkpoint or anything and everyone accepts the US Dollar of course!
We rented a car and started north from Phillipsburg. The beaches all have public access even when fronted by a fancy hotel. Unfortunately it was Sunday so I was unable to buy anything on the French side apart from a baguette!
