Park City, Utah - April 2008

We booked our week in Park City in December not knowing if there would be enough snow in April. Well, they had the best year in ten years and we had over 20 inches while we were there.  The snow in Utah is famed for being 'powder' as it is very dry and thus really nice to ski on. We stayed in a timeshare that we booked through my friend Alla at a rock bottom price.  We had a lovely view of the mountain and were only 5 minutes walk from the ski lift and shops and restaurants.  Since we had so much room (the condo could sleep 8), we invited John and Anne to come and join us.  We spent an afternoon in Salt Lake City which is only 30 minutes drive.  Not a very attractive city and didn't appear to have a lot to see except for Mormon related things. We toured around Brigham Young's house which was quite interesting, probably more so for the 'Sisters' that gave us the tour.  They come from all over the world and seem very enthusiastic about their religion. Afraid I find it all a bit strange and unbelievable!

The drinking laws in Utah take some time to understand. Only beer can be sold in supermarkets and all other alcohol is sold in State run stores. The Park City store is one of the best (probably because of all the Hollywood people who descend on the town for the Film Festival) and I was impressed with the selection of wines etc.  Restaurants can sell alcohol but most bars can only sell to 'members'. So quite often you're asked for $5 for a membership (for up to 5 people) in order to get a drink! Some places didn't ask so it was a bit confusing. Park City is a pretty expensive place, more so than California.

The weather was very cold and dry.
