We were only to be in Nagoya to change trains on our way to Takayama. Again, the typhoon spoiled our plans by knocking out the railway track. So we ran around trying to find an alternative route. The only available seats on the next bus was in 5 hours so we decided to explore the city.
Nagoya is an industrial town and hence was bombed to bits in the war! However, they reconstructed their shogun castle in concrete and installed a lift and it was actually quite interesting. Toyota is the main employer and has a lovely new museum. They started out in the manufacture of looms for cotton making and still make high tech versions. Uniformed women would demonstrate the machines for us. After the looms, it was the car industry. You could press buttons to see robots building engines or spraying paint. I was allowed to sit in the i-unit concept car but not to drive it! Very cool with the coloured neon lights that changed colour and the whole thing reclined. We could of spent much longer but had to make our connection.
