We stayed at the Urbain Executive about a 10 minute walk to the station. It was our cheapest hotel but had the best facilities. Free Japanese breakfast, 24 hour coffee and drink machines, free wi-fi, free washer and dryer and a public bath and sauna.
We tried the Hiroshima 'signature dish' of Okono miyaki. In downtown Hiroshima there was a place that had 30 restaurants all serving the same thing! It was a matter of walking around until you found one with seats! The chef cooks the dish on the metal hot plate and this also serves as your plate. Instead of chop sticks you get a sort of metal pie cutter thing that you use to shovel the pancake into your mouth! While we were there the TV was showing Scotland playing football against Japan. The staff were the friendliest we met in Japan and were happy to teach us some Japanese! Hiroshima is big on baseball and the local team are the Carps and play in the Mazda Stadium (they're local).
We only saw the A-bomb dome at night as every day we were on a day trip to somewhere else.
