Crater Lake, Oregon

July 2003

Crater Lake is a caldera which was formed when a volcano collapsed on itself 7,000 years ago.  It's 1,000 ft from the rim to the water and the elevation is about 7,000 ft.  Because it has a lot of snow, the lodge is open only in the summer months. The Lodge sits right on the edge of the rim and has great views.  The rim drive is 33 miles round trip and there are breathtaking views all around. There are boat trips but we were too early in the season.
