Our third trip and thus far, the best for weather. Temperatures were hot during the day but NO sand storms which was great. This year we went with Anne who came with us in 2004. We camped next to Kevin and his pal. Our Costco car port stood up pretty well but didn't really get tested with the wind but it kept the heat out.
Best art was the Belgium Waffle as everyone called it but officially it was the spacecraft of the Uchronians, a group from Belgium. They used sub-standard 2x3 wood from Canada to build a 60ft edifice with only nails holding it together. At night it was light up with DJ's inside with dancing. They say it cost $500,000 and the Belgium government gave them a grant! It was burnt on Sunday night. The Serpent Mother was good too - fire breathing metal serpent who moved it's huge head and jaws with propane fire spurting out of it's back as well. We were lucky to experience a propane/gas explosion - all 5 seconds of it. The fireball was huge and the heat coming from it was pretty scary. Also Dr Megavolt was back again with his two Tesla Coils mounted on a truck which he and Mrs Megavolt sparked while dressed in their Faraday suits. Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro is a regular but this was the first time we found it. Very strange and completely mad! The same artist that did Mother and Child last year was back with 3 sculptures outside Centre Camp. Saturday night of the burn was crazy with the Furry Pink Pussycat disco set up in the middle of the playa. I saw them setting up during the day and recognised Michelle Rodriguez who played the ex-cop in the Lost series.
