Smallest and most westerly of the ABC group of the Dutch Antilles. Only 19 miles long and 6 miles wide. The highest peak is only 617 feet. One side of the island is lined with hotels that face gorgeous sugar white sand beaches. The other side has a rugged coastline and the interior has an arid landscape of divi-divi trees and cacti.
We rented a car with John another guy who was at our dining table. We only had half a day since we were booked on an afternoon snorkel trip.
The 'Swim, Snorkel and Swing' tour was on an 85ft schooner and we weren't sure what to expect. It turned out to be one of our more memorable trips. We sailed to 3 different spots on the coast but the place where we snorkelled over a German wreck was the best. The Antilla is a German freighter that was scuttled by the Germans in 1945. The Antilla is the largest wreck in the Caribbean (400' long) and was sunk when it was brand new.
After our snorkel they had an open bar while some people tried swinging from a rope on the mast. I have video of Bill doing it - soon to be on Youtube! After a riotous ride back on the 'lizard' bus I was induced to dance the Macarena at Senor Frogs by the two girls who had been on our Dominica rain forest hike. We did make it back to the ship in time and got dressed for dinner in record time!
